Flower of the week: Peony

Today we want to give you an understanding of one of the most beautiful flowers

available. I am sure you have already heard of them and seen them in several flower bouquets or flower stores.

We at Blume Sweden are already huge fans of peonies and maybe after you read this article you will be as well.

What is so special about them?

Not only are they good looking and are adding a glam factor to your apartment but there are also a few interesting facts, that we will tell you in a second.

A peony represents wealth and honor and it also embodies romance and love, and is regarded as the omen of good fortune and happy marriage. This is why peonies are also often used in wedding bouquets and currently they are ranked as the 12th wedding anniversary flower!

A peony is one plant you will enjoy for a long time. Peony plants can live to be 100 years and still produce flowers.

They are native to Asia, Southern Europe and Western North America.

Have you ever wondered why they are called peonies?

The peony is named after Paeon , a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Asclepius became jealous of Paeon and Zeus saved him from the wrath of Asclepius by turning him into the peony flower. This is a fun fact to know and tell your friends, right?

The Chinese name for the peony is sho yu and this means "most beautiful". This is not a surprise for us as peonies are also among our favorite flowers of all time.

„Because nothing makes women smile quite like a fresh bouquet of pink peonies“

We hope you liked these facts about peonies and fell a little bit in love with them. If you are more interested in them now, check out our website where we have a lot of bouquets with them inside or visit one of or local suppliers in Sweden. We are sure they would be more than happy to tell you more about them and show you some of their peonies.

What is your favorite flower? We are curious about your answers and can’t wait to read your comments!

xx your Blume Sweden Team
