5 tips on how to maintain your flowers

Do your flowers just keep on dying? There are many reason why they wilt so quickly. To improve the condition and longevity of your flowers there are few easy tips you can use to make them last longer. Read on to find out how.

Tips to exceed your flower's lifetime

  1. Cutting edge. Make new cut edges with a sharp knife. Do not cut off the stems with scissors, that will clog the pipes in the stem and flowers can not "drink" water, which would make your flowers wilt faster.

  2. Leave the leafs. Leave them outside the water, that is. Remove leafs that come under water, so they don't develop any bacteria that will prevent the flower from absorbing water

  3. Clean is best. Your flowers will appreciate a clean vase and fresh water every other day. You will notice the difference in lifespan right away. Fresh water and a clean environment allow your flower to thrive.

  4. Feed your flower. Invest in a commercial floral preservative. Floral preservatives contain acid, sucrose, and an ingredient to discourage bacteria. These three ingredients work together to increase the life of your flowers. So, drop that preservative in and watch your flowers Blume. If you prefer a natural route, come back next week to read our post about making your own natural flower preservative.

  5. Location is key. Where you place your flowers matter! Make sure that the surrounding area is free from fruit bowls, heating vents, and bright lights. Fruits contains ethylene gases that ripen your fruit, so it can also “ripen” your flowers. Make sure to place your flowers in a cool, humid environment.
